🚨 Urgent Action Required

Our community hospital is under threat of immediate closure. We need every resident to speak up now.

SIGN THE LETTER TO SAVE CHRIST HOSPITAL

As stewards of the safety, beauty, and well-being of our Jersey City Heights community, the Sgt. Anthony Park Neighborhood Association (SAPNA) is closely monitoring the urgent situation regarding the potential closure of Christ Hospital (Heights University Hospital).

Located just blocks from our park, Christ Hospital has been a vital lifeline for our residents for over 150 years. The sudden move by the current operators to close the Emergency Department threatens the very safety and quality of life we work together to protect. We believe that access to local, acute healthcare is non-negotiable for a thriving neighborhood.

News: Save Christ Hospital – Save Lives in the Heights

For generations, Christ Hospital on Palisade Avenue has been the cornerstone of healthcare in Jersey City Heights. However, the facility—recently renamed Heights University Hospital—is now facing an immediate threat of closure. Despite previous assurances of a “bright future,” the current operators have notified the city of their intent to shut down the Emergency Department, leaving our community without its closest critical care resource.

Why This Matters to Our Neighborhood:

  • Life-and-Death Access: For our seniors, families, and neighbors without vehicles, Christ Hospital is the only accessible emergency facility. A closure means longer travel times to other hospitals, which can be fatal in an emergency.
  • Community Stability: The loss of 700 local jobs and the potential for the site to be converted into luxury residential towers—against current medical zoning—threatens the character and stability of our Heights community.
  • Protecting the Vulnerable: Christ Hospital serves a high percentage of uninsured and low-income residents who rely on its charity care services.

Take Action Now

Local leaders, including Councilman James Solomon and state representatives, are fighting to keep the doors open through emergency injunctions and state intervention, but they need the power of our collective voice.

We are asking every member of the Sgt. Anthony Park community to sign the petition and letter to Governor Sherrill and the NJ Department of Health. We must demand that the state uses every tool at its disposal—from emergency funding to appointing a receiver—to prevent this illegal and unconscionable closure.

Together, we can ensure that the “safety and beauty” of our neighborhood includes the peace of mind that comes with accessible, local healthcare. Stay tuned for further updates on community rallies and town hall meetings.
