MEETING RECAP
Disruptive Work on Route 139:
The road closing at Palisade Ave continues to be a significant issue that will effect all residents of The Sgt Anthony Neighborhood and throughout The Heights. It is clear that the majority of our community still are unaware of the plans at all.
NJDOT have informed us that crossing route 139 on Palisade Ave will not be possible from Dec 4th until completion which will take many months. From the Heights, you will still be able to turn right on to the highway.
Along with the petition started last night and with support from our local politicians, we will continue to insist that the JODOT reopen Oakland Ave before this work starts on Palisade Ave, and that Central Ave and Baldwin Ave not be closed (phase 3) until Palisade is complete (phase 2).
We will update you via the website and though these newsletters so PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD by forwarding this to your neighbors and encouraging them to go to the https://sgtanthonypark.com/ website and sign up to receive these emails.
Improvements to Sgt Anthony Park:
Sonia Dublin informed us of some of the upcoming repairs and improvements to the park.
In the coming weeks we hope to enjoy
- A new memorial for Sgt Anthony
- Replanting of the Trees outside the park
- Fixing of park lighting
Confirmed by DPW for 2016:
- Resurfacing the basketball court
- New backboards and nets
- Crushed granite for the dog run.
- An expansion for the community garden, with removal of high fences.
Flea Market:
We hope to usher in the return of the Sgt Anthony Park Flea Market in Spring. We need volunteers to help. If you would like to join the events committee or if you already know you would like a table at the Flea Market, please email bartwarshaw@gmail.com.
Neighborhood Trees:
There were many issues raised about the lack of care of the neighborhood trees. Over the coming weeks we will be setting up an online Neighborhood Tree Map that can track the existing trees and ones that need replacing or looking after. We will be coordinating with JC Parks Coalition and Department of Public Works to make the neighborhood a greener and more beautiful place to live.
Association:
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 21st Jan.
